Hello and welcome back to Press Play: Your SME Video Advantage!
I’m genuinely thrilled you’re here for our big milestone—Episode 10. To celebrate, we’re diving into something that’s genuinely changing the game for small and mid-sized businesses.
What if you could create an entire week’s worth of professional, ready-to-post video content in just a couple of hours?
Let me paint that picture for you: instead of spending days filming, editing, and agonizing over details, you reclaim that time for strategy, client work, or (dare I say it) actual living. That’s exactly what we’re unlocking today.
Let’s talk about AI in Your Workflow—not as a scary robot overlord, but as your ridiculously efficient creative co-pilot.
AI Isn’t Magic. It’s Just a Very Good Assistant.
The term “AI” gets thrown around so much it can feel intimidating. I like to simplify it into two practical buckets:
- Generative AI: Creates brand-new things from a prompt (scripts, ideas, music, images).
- Assistive AI: Takes the tasks you’re already doing and handles the tedious parts at lightning speed.
Think of AI as your new virtual production assistant. This assistant doesn’t direct the vision or shape your message—that’s still 100% you. They just handle the repetitive, soul-crushing work that usually eats your afternoons. You stay the visionary. They become the hyper-competent partner who never needs coffee breaks.
Start With the Words: Better Prompts, Better Scripts
Every great video begins with words on a page. The good news? Tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Jasper have become incredibly sophisticated.
But here’s my unbreakable rule: never use lazy prompts.
Instead of typing “write me a video script,” try this:
“Act as a senior marketing strategist with 15 years of B2B SaaS experience. Write three different 45-second video hooks for an explainer video about our project management tool that focuses on reducing meeting fatigue.”
The difference is night and day.
My favorite hack? Find a competitor’s video that’s absolutely crushing it, grab the transcript, and feed it to the AI. Ask it to break down their structure, persuasive techniques, and emotional triggers. It’s like having a crack market research team working for you at 2 a.m.
From Blog Post to Video: The Closest Thing to Magic
Once you have your script (or even an old blog post), the real fun begins.
Platforms like Pictory and InVideo AI are absolute game-changers for SMEs. You upload a text document—could be a full article, bullet points, or even a rough script—and watch as the AI:
- Pulls relevant stock footage and images
- Generates natural-sounding voiceovers
- Creates perfectly timed captions
This is where I get genuinely excited. You’ve already done the hard work of creating written content. Now you’re multiplying that content across video formats without starting from scratch. It’s the definition of working smarter, not harder.
AI Avatars: Powerful, But Use With Wisdom
You’ve probably seen the incredibly realistic digital humans from Synthesia and HeyGen. The upside is massive—creating welcome videos in ten languages in minutes, scaling training content, or producing consistent explainer videos.
But let’s talk about the elephant in the room: the uncanny valley.
When a digital person looks almost right but not quite, it can create subtle distance with your audience. My recommendation? Use a hybrid approach.
AI avatars are perfect for repeatable, functional content (onboarding videos, FAQs, how-to tutorials). For your brand story videos and thought leadership pieces—the content where connection matters most—your authentic human face should still be front and center.
The Real Time-Saver: Text-Based Editing
If you only implement one thing from this episode, make it this.
Modern AI video editors (like Descript, Opus Clip, and Runway) let you edit video by editing text. The AI generates a perfect transcript of your footage, and cutting becomes as simple as deleting words. Don’t like that sentence? Delete it. The video updates instantly.
Those awkward “ums,” “ahs,” and ramblings? Gone with one click.
Even better, these tools can intelligently reframe one video for multiple platforms. Film once, and the AI creates a landscape version for YouTube, a vertical cut for TikTok, and a square version for LinkedIn. It’s the kind of efficiency that makes you wonder how we ever lived without it.
Don’t Forget What Hits the Ears
Video isn’t just visual. Two massive pain points for most SMEs are audio quality and music licensing.
Good news: you don’t need a $1,000 microphone. Record on your smartphone, run it through Adobe Podcast Enhance or similar AI tools, and it sounds like you’re in a professional studio. It’s borderline witchcraft.
For music, AI generators like Suno or Mubert let you type a prompt like “upbeat, optimistic corporate track with light electronic elements, 60 seconds” and generate completely original, royalty-free music. No more copyright strikes or settling for generic tracks.
What’s Coming Next (And It’s Wild)
We’re just scratching the surface. Keep your eyes on:
- AI color grading that automatically matches your brand style guide
- Hyper-accurate, context-aware multi-language subtitles
- Predictive thumbnail analytics that can forecast click-through rates before you post
The future isn’t about replacing human creativity—it’s about removing friction so your creativity can scale.
How to Start Without Getting Overwhelmed
With so many tools available, the biggest mistake I see is trying to implement everything at once.
My advice? Ask yourself one question:
“What is the single biggest bottleneck in my current video workflow?”
Is it scripting? Editing? Coming up with ideas? Starting with one specific problem and solving it with one tool is how you build real momentum.
And remember: be transparent. If you use an AI avatar for training videos, a simple disclosure actually builds trust. Your audience is remarkably understanding when you’re authentic about your process.
The Bottom Line
AI isn’t here to replace you. It’s here to amplify you.
For SMEs, these tools represent the most accessible force multiplier we’ve ever had. They let you scale video content without scaling your budget or burning yourself out.
The businesses that win over the next few years won’t necessarily be the ones with the biggest budgets. They’ll be the ones that use these tools strategically while keeping their humanity and authentic voice at the center.
Now that you have the tools to create at scale, it’s time to master where you put that content.
